Amy and I had a Doctor’s appointment on Friday and everything checked out great. It was a pretty quick visit, we listened to the heart beat then Dr. Gillian talked to Amy about a few things to expect during the 2nd trimester.

So…the big question is: Boy or Girl?

At 13 1/2 weeks we had a special sonogram where the Doctor indicated that he thought we were having a girl. Apparently this guy is supposed to be about 99.5% accurate (so the nurse says). But At 16 1/2 weeks, the regular sonogram guy said “it was still to early to determine the sex.” We both are confident the baby is a girl but we will find out for sure at our sonogram on Wednesday.

Last week was a great one for quotes, both from the conference and and our guest preacher Elliot Green.

“This may surprise you, but it’s not my first mistake.” – Greg Livingstone (Livingston on “A Common Word”)

“The worst kind of home to be brought up in is the one with many pretensions and low performance. The best kind of home to be brought up in is the one with few pretensions and high performance.” – D. A. Carson (More here)

“Don’t reason with them [children] at the age of 3.” – D. A. Carson (More here)

“Before you read the 5th commandment you have to read the 1st.” – D. A. Carson (More here)

“You never walk away from responsibility.” – Crawford Loritts’ Father (More here)

“Nothing in your life or ministry will happen outside courage.” – Crawford Loritts (More here)

“When a man of God dies, nothing of God dies.” – Crawford Loritts (More here)

“God is not held hostage to how you are wired.” – Crawford Loritts (More here)

“If you fear God more than you fear your environment, you’ll always be courageous.” – Crawford Loritts (More here)

“Leadership is strengthened by acts of obedience.” – Crawford Loritts (More here)

“You know your flying over the right target when your getting shot at.” – Crawford Loritts (More here)

“God gave us these laws (10 commandments) to show us our sin, and run to his remedy.” – Elliot Green (Listen to the rest here)

God can trust God to safely get us home.” – Elliot Green (Listen to the rest here)

This week Gary, Chad Barnes, Pastor Gunny, and myself all traveled up to Minneapolis for the 2008 Desiring God Pastor’s conference. Some of our favorite pastor/authors are John Piper and D. A. Carson, so any excuse we can come up with to go and hear them speak we take. Desiring God has all the conference audio posted for free so go check it out. They are all good, but if you ask me, I would start with Carson’s sermons. Gunny has posted the top 10 things I look forward to about the conference on his blog. It was a great trip and I can’t wait to do it again in the fall for the 2008 National Conference. Our flight home was canceled so we had to hop-scotch home from Minneapolis to St. Louis (and delayed 2 hours), then St. Louis to Dallas, then Gary and Chad had to drive back to Tyler that night. Ah…the joys of traveling!

In case you didn’t know Amy and I have two cats: Chief and Emmy. It is always amusing when we give them a bath so I thought I would give ya’ll a glimpse.
